Mee Hee Smith - Early Talent Manager - XPO
Mee Hee Smith, Early Career Manager at XPO, talks about her background and role within the company. She explains that XPO created her position to focus on talent pipelining and developing partnerships with local communities. The conversation touches on the importance of workforce boards and their involvement in training programs for the trucking industry. Additionally, Mee Hee mentions the success of XPO's internship program and their efforts to retain employees through talent management programs like "Grow at XPO."
XPO recently participated in the National Truck Driver Championship (NTDC) and sent 41 of their drivers, which was the highest number ever. They invest in their drivers and have over 13,000 drivers in total. They also have their own Master Tech Competition coming up in November where they will send 20 technicians to compete for a grand prize of $5,000. XPO is focused on investing in their team members and providing training opportunities such as tuition reimbursement.
Creating a strong company culture is important to attract younger generations, and XPO is actively engaging with communities and opening its doors for tours to showcase what they offer. In the next five years, XPO aims to be the talent magnet of the industry by continuing to innovate and build partnerships. They believe that diverse talent exists within K-12 education spaces and advise others to connect with local schools and community partners to promote careers in trucking at an early age. By creating awareness about career opportunities in the industry, XPO hopes to build a strong pipeline of future talent.
